Sheri is a certified pet dog trainer through the Certification Council for Pet Dog Trainers
(CCPDT). She started her dog training career in 1995 when she
volunteered at the Calgary Humane Society in the following roles:
- Dog Training Assistant: Assisted a dog trainer in classes for four years.
- Dog Behaviour Assessments: Performed assessments on dogs and wrote customized reports
recommending the best home for each animal.
- Dog Behaviour Hotline: Assisted callers with various dog problems.
- Foster Parent: Fostered dogs who needed special care.
While working at the Calgary Humane Society, she opened up her own company starting with pet sitting which almost
immediately lead to dog training.
In 1998 Sheri began teaching group classes herself in Calgary. In 2000, she started commuting
back and forth from Calgary to Salt spring Island, B.C. and teaching in both places offering classes and
private lessons. She has taught hundreds of dogs in a variety of classes. Classes are
intentionally kept small to ensure personalized training for each client.
She currently teaches exclusively on Salt Spring Island.
Professional Development
Sheri continues to upgrade her skills by attending conferences, assisting other trainers in
their classes and taking her dog, Magik in other trainers' classes. She attends one to
three conferences a year.
Sheri has always believed in the super friendly clicker approach to training due to it's
overwhelmingly positive environment. Over the years, she has been influenced by such
well-known dog gurus as: Sue Ailsby, Chris Bach, Ian Dunbar, Pam Reid, Jean Donaldson, Turid
Rugaas, Donna Duford, all of whom she has seen in person and all of whom are extremely positive
in their approach to dog learning and training.
Sheri is very active on a number of computer dog lists where she contributes advice and
learns from other dog owners and trainers. She participates in many dog-related
activities with her dog, Magik (see Magik's resume for the various activities).
Sheri is a professional member of the Canadian Association of Professional Pet Dog Trainers
(CAPPDT) and has been since the year, 2000. She attends the CAPPDT conferences every
second year when they are held in Western Canada.
